Frequently Asked Questions
What is a merchant account?
A merchant account is a "bank account" established with a payment
processor for the settlement of credit card transactions. Any merchant
who wants to take credit card orders must establish a merchant account.
Internet merchants need a "Card Not Present Merchant Account." For
TaxWise clients the merchant account provider is Fifth Third Bank,
www.53.com
What is an Internet Payment Gateway?
In e-commerce, the application that securely transmits transactions
between a merchant and an acquiring bank or merchant account is an
Internet Payment Gateway. For TaxWise clients the Internet Payment
Gateway is Skipjack, www.skipjack.com.
How does the application process work?
The first step will be to apply for a 5/3 merchant account using the
online form here. Once you are
approved for the merchant account, 5/3 will send you your specific
merchant account information. They will also deliver the information to
Skipjack so they can create your Gateway account. When Skipjack creates
your account they will then provide you with your login information as
well as your HTML serial number and a web address. To begin processing,
you simply go to
https://vpos.skipjack.com/taxwise,
enter your 12-digit
HTML serial number, and activate your form. The application will
automatically be saved to the Favorites list of your browser under a
name that you can choose. You may then move the form anywhere on your
hard drive, to the Desktop for example, if you would like.
What is the process for accepting credit cards?
To process a credit card you simply open the form from your Favorites
list or Desktop and enter the required information.
How will I receive the funds?
The 12-digit HTML serial number within your Skipjack form is
automatically connected to your merchant account at Fifth Third. Your
Skipjack account will be setup in "automatic settlement" mode. This
means that at the end of the day, Skipjack will automatically take all
of your "approved" transactions and submit them in a batch for
settlement for you. Your funds will then move into your merchant
account and then into the business account that you have designated for
deposits. This process takes approximately 48 hours.
How can I manage these transactions or view reports?
You will have full transaction management and reporting capabilities
through your Skipjack account access. You simply login to your account
at https://secure.skipjack.com
using the Login Serial Number, Username,
and Password provided by Skipjack when your account is activated.
Skipjack also has a host of user manuals and other materials at
www.skipjack.com/resources.
Who can I contact with questions or issues with my processing?
Once you have your account with 5/3 and Skipjack up and running,
you can contact Skipjack customer support with any processing or
transaction management questions at 888-368-8507 option 1, support@skipjack.com,
or by using the LivePerson chat session off of their website at
www.skipjack.com.
For any issues with your deposits or receipt of funds, you can contact
Fifth Third customer service at 800-278-6888.
